Our voice reaches the global stage as we advocate as Concepts of Truth International at the United Nations. Concepts of Truth is a Registered Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that is dedicated to collaborating with other member states and other NGOs to promote life-affirming values, providing training in trauma recovery and sexual health programs, and identifying and supporting high-risk communities both nationally and internationally.

Family Life Advocacy Program – Liberia, West Africa

Liberia ranks 150th among 176 nations on the Heritage Foundation’s Index of Economic Freedom, highlighting its status as one of the world’s most economically challenged countries. In this context, poverty and family disintegration are pervasive, leaving countless children without parental guidance and exposed to harsh realities. Additionally, mental health and addiction issues are widespread, yet the country lacks sufficient support systems to address these critical needs.

Concepts of Truth International is actively engaged in Liberia, partnering with local church networks to build community-based mental health frameworks and provide vital prevention resources. These efforts aim to support Liberia’s recovery from the trauma of two decades of civil war, fostering hope and resilience within families and communities.

In 2018, Dr. Richard Hoffman, President of the Foundation for Christian Counseling (FFCC), led a team to Liberia to teach two intensive courses at Methodist University in Monrovia. Since then, FFCC has conducted annual trips to deliver educational training. In 2023, in partnership with Christian Counseling Associates, FFCC established Christian Counseling Associates of Liberia in Monrovia, the nation’s capital. The organization has since developed a team of local counselors and university consultants, operating offices in Monrovia and Gbanga.

Holistic Approach: The Agricultural Initiative

In 2024, FFCC launched an agricultural initiative to address Liberia’s multifaceted crisis holistically. The organization purchased 40 acres of farmland to support this project, which will serve as the foundation for a residential treatment center for individuals struggling with substance use issues.

This farm provides a dual benefit:

1. Rehabilitation and Recovery

Offering individuals a safe space to recover and rebuild their lives.

2. Vocational Training and Empowerment

Addressing unemployment by teaching vocational skills that enable individuals to contribute to their communities.

Liberia’s reliance on rice imports—valued at $124 million in 2022—drains the economy and perpetuates the cycle of poverty. As FFCC’s farm expands, it will enhance local food production, reduce dependence on imports, and empower the local church to play a leading role in the nation’s recovery.

By integrating mental health support, addiction recovery, and vocational training with sustainable agricultural practices, FFCC is creating a hopeful path forward for Liberia’s families and communities.

Meet the Team

Kenneth Jackson, M.A.

Kenneth Jackson is a professional counselor based in Monrovia and an ordained pastor in the Methodist Church. Clinically trained in counseling at Methodist University, Kenneth serves as the General Manager of Christian Counseling Associates (CCA) Liberia. He oversees the clinical team and the agricultural project, ensuring the integration of mental health support with sustainable development initiatives.

Emmett Hunter, B.A.

Emmett Hunter is a professional counselor in Gbanga, Liberia, with over a decade of experience in both counseling and farming. As the Farm Manager for CCA Liberia, Emmett leads crop production efforts and oversees all operations on the farm. He also brings valuable experience in the rehabilitation of individuals struggling with substance use, combining agricultural and therapeutic practices to support recovery.

Tom Weil, M.A., L.P.C.

Tom Weil is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Clinical Supervisor at Christian Counseling Associates. As the Lead Consultant for CCA Liberia, Tom leverages over 30 years of agricultural experience, having managed a 400-acre farm operation in the United States. His expertise bridges counseling, farming, and organizational development to support Liberia’s recovery initiatives.

Alexander Hoffman, M.A., L.A.P.C.

Alexander Hoffman is the Vice President of the Foundation for Christian Counseling (FFCC) and oversees all operations of CCA Liberia for the Foundation. Alexander’s leadership ensures alignment between FFCC’s mission and its efforts to support holistic recovery and empowerment in Liberia.
